Progress & Paws: OCC Update | January 1–June 13, 2025
It’s been a busy, emotional, and ultimately impactful stretch for Operation Colony Cats. Rescue work often feels like cramming multiple weeks into just one — but every day brings us closer to a community with less suffering, more compassion, and healthier animals.
📊 Mid-Year Stats at a Glance
- 817 feline spays and neuters
- 135 canine spays and neuters
- 196 cats and kittens transported to Sweet Paws Rescue
- 24 cats and kittens placed or transported through Oktibbeha County Humane Society
- 9 cats and kittens transported via West Point Clay County Animal Shelter
And just this week alone, we spayed and neutered 38 cats and kittens, including two brave mama cats diagnosed with pyometra, a painful and life-threatening uterine infection. Without surgery, pyometra can be fatal. Thanks to our team, both moms are now safe and healing.
🚛 Transport Thursday!
This week’s highlight was Thursday’s big transport with B Line Transport Services, taking 30 cats and kittens to Sweet Paws Rescue in Massachusetts. That’s 30 fewer kittens in overcrowded Southern shelters—and 30 more lives with a real shot at forever homes. If you’re looking to adopt locally, please visit your shelter. They’re overflowing with sweet, adoptable kittens.

🐾 Rescue Spotlights
✨ Pesto, Tiralli & Ziti – Rescued from a long-time “free kittens” site on Hwy 69. We’re so close to fully closing this colony with only two cats left to trap.
✨ Jelly Bean & Lollipop – Once bug-chasing kittens in the woods, now indoor cuddle bugs thanks to our team. Most outdoor kittens don’t make it to six months — these two are the lucky ones.
✨ Bibbs – Mr. Personality! This talkative boy charmed his way out of a feral colony and into a loving foster home. Snuggly, social, and always ready for a chat.
✨ The Marvel Kittens – Matt Purrdock, Elektra, Claire & crew were orphaned under a Hamilton home. Thanks to bottle foster care and a little community help, they’re thriving. Two are already headed north for adoption!
✨ Kermit & Fozzie – Rescued from a junkyard, surviving hardship and cruelty, these brothers are healed and full of love to give. Kermit is a mellow snuggler, Fozzie is gentle and affectionate.
✨ Figaro – From a quiet colony in New Hope to a chatty, playful sweetheart. He loves having feline friends and is ready to find his match.
✨ Henry, Ducky, Adelaide & Josephine – Barn-born beauties with playful, social personalities. This litter is sweet, spunky, and ready for their forever homes.
✨ Mercedes & Bentley – Two ginger brothers with full-throttle kitten energy and endless affection. They zoom, they purr, they knead their blankie in sync.
✨ Momma Binx & Babies – Sometimes kittens don’t wait. Binx gave birth in a carrier just before her scheduled spay. Her babies — Sam Sam, Sai Sai, Mochi, Boots, and adopted brother Tuck — are now on their way to happy homes.
✨ Brandy & Wendy – Born near a remote carwash, these sisters survived against the odds. Full of purrs and play, they’re ready for soft laps and safe homes.
✨ Harlow – Dumped, rediscovered, and adored. Harlow is an all-star cat who loves everyone — dogs, kids, even bearded dragons. She’s now searching for her true forever home after her current housing situation changed.
✨ Flo & Bev – Flo (Florence Nightingale) was found in a hospital parking lot and nursed to health. Bev was scooped up near a busy road. Together, they’re joyful, playful, and the best kind of medicine.

🌟 Every Story Matters
Each kitten we rescue comes with a past — but it’s the future we’re working for. Our fosters pour their hearts into these animals to give them the life they deserve. If you’ve made it to the end of this post, thank you. You’re part of the change.
